Stop Screwing Up Education Department of Education

I was in the middle of reading the the President’s proposed 2010 budget when I decided to take a break and watch some Reasons TV videos. This particular video I was watching was called Let Parent’s Choose, and it was talking about all the downsides of the so-called Universal Pre-schools. One point they brought is that if any of the Universal Pre-School bills got made into law, then all of the pre-schools would start to look the same, that they would become homogeneous. Then I started thinking, isn’t that what the Department of Education is trying to do with school at all levels? With national standardized tests and masses of regulations on what a school’s curriculum must look like, it is almost as if they want every school to look exactly the same, and that is a damn shame.

One of the things that made this country great was the competition of ideas. Let me ask you this. Where will the different ideas come from if everybody learns the same things in the same way? The Department of Education is trying to take away our individuality and turn us into drones. I foresee a dark future without any thought of progress if this continues the way it is going. We need to fight against the standardization of schools, and let the local people and especially the individual decide how and what they are going to learn.
