The President’s Address to the Congress

I watched Mr. Obama addressing the congress tonight. It was generally the same as on his first press conference as president, where he basically said that without the government the world would stop turning. He explained that the people can do somethings, but we need the almighty government there to spur the people in the “correct” direction. Once I find a transcript of this thing, I’ll write up a more in depth post.

One thing of note is that Obama promised to halve the national deficit by the end of the his first term. How he’s going to do this with the way the government is spending I’d like to see. Of course if he’s halving the deficit starting after all of these bailouts it won’t be too hard. Even with halving the deficit, that still will not do anything to the federal debt, or to the $50 trillion in Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid obligations in the next 40 years.
